Core Medical Training Programme
Cambridge University Hospitals hosts Core Medical Training (CMT) rotations that are very popular and well structured. CUH is a major contributor to the rotations, with linked rotations to Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals, Bedford Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Papworth Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
The majority of the programmes provide experience in Cardiology, Geriatrics, Endocrinology & Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Respiratory Medicine. In addition, a number of our trusts are offering placements in Renal Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Oncology, Rheumatology and Haematology. All CMT posts provide experience in acute medicine through their on-call rotas. It is expected, therefore, that trainees will have the opportunity to acquire all the required competencies set out in the General Internal Medicine Curriculum 2012, including attainment of the full MRCP. All trainees have a named educational supervisor whose performance in the role will be reviewed annually by his/her District College Tutor. Trainees’ progress will be assessed by the Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) process, during which each trainee will be met and given advice in a face-to-face interview as well as being given the opportunity to provide information to the Deanery about the quality of their training.
