The Cambridge General Surgical Emergencies Course 

This simulation course, led by Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Ionna Panagiotopoulou, teaches trainees about crisis management and human factors whilst leading or helping out in the simulation emergency scenarios. 

Course Aims: 

- To learn about human factors via an interactive session facilitated with a presentation and you tube videos

- To have a strategy in managing an emergency scenario, identifying blind spots, managing a team during emergencies. 

Course Learning Outcomes: 

- To provide immediate resuscitation of the acutely ill surgical patient and escalate care

- To learn on fluid resuscitation vs. resuscitation with blood vs permissive hypo tension through different scenarios. 

- Covering a variety of scenarios for the core trainee rotating in different sub specialities from evacuating neck haematoma causing stridor to compartment syndrome or massive lower GI bleed.  


Target Audience: CT1/ CT2 /FY2

Places are limited to 16 attendees. 6 places are reserved for Core Trainees, 6 places are reserved for ST3 and above and 4 places are offered to externals. 


Registration will begin for 9am with the course scheduled to run until 4:30pm. 

Lunch and light morning and afternoon refreshments will be catered for. Please ensure that you state any dietary requirements in your application.
