The East of England Surgical Cadaveric Simulation Programme for
Core Surgical and Higher Surgical Trainees

All courses will take place at the Cambridge Surgical Training Centre, The Quorum, Barnwell Road, Cambridge CB5 8RE.
These programmes has been mapped to the intercollegiate surgical curriculum with funding from NHS England. Faculty from across the region will facilitate hands on training for regional trainees. The following courses will use fresh-frozen cadaveric tissue, to simulate surgical training:

The four Core Surgical Training course dates taking place in 2025 are below.
Applications are welcome from Core Surgical Trainees working in the East of England region.

Funded places are limited to 8 delegates per course.
Places will be allocated following approval from the course lead.

Please note applications for the Colorectal Course on 6th & 7th February have now closed.
Applications are welcome from HST trainees working in the East of England region. You are welcome to make an application for more than one course.
Funded places are limited to 8 delegates per course.
Please note that all applications are to be approved by the Course Lead. You will be contacted by Emma Shone, Course Administrator following your application as to when the outcome of your application will be confirmed.
Colorectal: 6th & 7th February 2025 (2 day course) APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED
Course content: • Laparoscopic: Segmental colectomy and Anterior resection • Abdomino-perineal resection (APR) • Proctology
Breast and Endocrine Surgery: 11th February 2025
Course content: • Wide local excision• Skin sparing mastectomy • Subpectoral reconstruction • Axillary clearance • Latissimus Dorsi flap • Thyroid
Upper GI: 12th February 2025
Course content: • Laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy • Laparoscopic and open duodenal/ gastric ulcer perforation • Laparoscopic approaches to the hiatus • Distal gastrectomy • Splenectomy • Diaphragmatic herniation and repair • Visceral rotation and access to retroperitoneal structures.
HPB: 17th & 18th February 2025 (2 day course)
Course content: • Day one will concentrate on hepatobiliary procedures and day two on pancreatobiliary procedures.
Transplant: 27th February 2025
Applications from non-transplant trainees are welcomed.
Course content: Simulation exercises covering organ retrieval, vascular anastomoses and kidney transplantation. This course aims to bring basic and higher understanding of abdominal anatomy and Transplantation procedures.
Trauma: 11th March 2025
Course content: • Trauma Laparotomy • Packing abdomen • Assessment of injuries • Individual organ injuries and approaches • Chest Trauma (revision): • Anterolateral & Clamshell Thoracotomy • Aortic control • Rapid control of major pulmonary haemorrhage • Accessing the heart • Repairing Myocardial defects
Vascular Surgery: 28th March 2025
Applications from non-vascular surgery trainees are welcomed.
Course content: abdominal exposures including, infrarenal aorta, iliacs, supracoelic aorta, left renal vein and all vessels of the lower limb.
